Manual: Windows 10 and Windows 11 Activation

Important Note

Make sure you have purchased a valid product key that matches the version of Windows you are using.

  • Windows Home  and  Windows Pro  have different product keys.
  • A product key for Windows 10 will usually also work for Windows 11, but check this when purchasing.

Activate Windows with a Product Key

Step 1: Check your Windows version

  1. Open the  Start menu .
  2. Go to  Settings  (gear icon).
  3. Click  System  >  About .
  4. Under “Windows Specifications” check whether you have the Home or Pro version installed.

Step 2: Enter product code

  1. Open the  Start menu  and go to  Settings .
  2. Click  Update & Security  (Windows 10) or  System  >  Activation  (Windows 11).
  3. Click on  Change product key .
  4. Enter your 25-digit product code (for example: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX).
  5. Click  Next  and follow the prompts to complete the activation.

Step 3: Confirm Activation

  • After successful activation, a message will appear stating that Windows has been activated.
  • You can also go to  Settings  >  System  >  Activation  to check if Windows is activated.

Troubleshooting Activation Issues

  1. Error message: “This product code is not valid”

    • Make sure the product key matches the installed version (Home or Pro).
  2. Error message: “Another license is already activated on this machine”

    • This happens if the product key has already been used on another computer. Contact Microsoft support.
  3. After hardware changes (such as a new hard drive)

    • Use the Activation Troubleshooter in  Settings  >  Update & Security  >  Activation  >  Troubleshooter
  4. No product code available

    • Purchase a new license through the official Microsoft store or an authorized reseller.
